WILLKOMMEN AUF MEINER HOMEPAGE!!! Mein Name ist Marion Beins. Der Name Beins stammt ursprünglich aus dem Schottischen und wurde von Schotten, die auf den europäischen Kontinent gingen, zu dieser Form verändert. In der Bretagne z.B. auch in Beinseich oder Beinseix. Meine Familie gehört zum großen Clan McBain/McBean oder MacBain/MacBean(gaelisch "bheathain" - lively one - 'Mac'ic' Bheatha', historisch MacBeth). Auf der Collage sind unsere Clanfarben (Tartans) zu sehen, unser Clan-Wappen mit Katze, unser größter Clan-Held Major Gillies MacBain, gefallen 1745 in Culloden (darüber mehr auf Seite 2), die schottische Fahne "Scotland the Brave" und die schottische Königsfahne. Farben und Muster des Tartans finden sich auf Kilts, Tüchern, Krawatten etc. wieder. Unser Clan ist ein uralter, keltischer Stamm, der seit ewigen Zeiten in den schottischen Highlands rund um Loch Ness mit der Hauptstadt Inverness lebt. MACBAIN Gaelic Name: MacBheathain; Motto: Touch not the cat bot a targe, neueres Englisch: Touch not the cat without a shield (Berühre nicht die Katze (Katzenpopo) ohne Schild), gemeint ist eine Tartsche (mittelalterlicher Schild)), siehe oben); Badge: Red whortleberry or Boxwood; Lands: Dores, Inverness-shire; Origin of Name: Son of Beatham (Son of the Lively One) ; History: The Gaelic 'Ban' or Bain means ‘fair’ and with Scottish blood made up with so much Norse and Germanic stock this descriptive term could have been applied to many people. Indeed the name is found associated with several clans in many districts. There was an early Scottish King called Donald Ban. Through various Gaelic manipulations the three forms of the name have become MacBean, McVean and MacBain. One area where the MacBeans became well established was eastern Inverness-shire where they settled having come from Lochaber in the suite of the heiress of Clan Chattan. The MacBeans were warriors and have fought with distinction right into this century. Myles MacBean strongly supported MacKintosh against the Red Comyn, and MacBeans died fighting for MacKintosh at the Battle of Harlaw in 1411. The MacBeans of Kinchyle became the principal MacBean family and they signed a number of important agreements with Clan Chattan in 1609, 1664 and 1756. Other important MacBean families were MacBean of Tomatin in Strathdearn, MacBean of Faillie in Strathnairn and the MacBeans of Drummond in the parish of Dores. At the Battle of Culloden a breach opened in a wall. Filling the breach, Gillies MacBean killed fourteen of the Hanovarian enemy before being killed himself. As history repeats itself, Major-General William MacBean, who attained his rank in 1873 after joining the 93rd Regiment as a private, gained the Victoria Cross for his actions at the main breach of the Begum Bagh at Lucknow in 1858, where he single-handedly killed eleven enemy. The Victoria Cross is the highest medal the British Empire can award. Major Forbes MacBean earned the D.S.O. for his bravery in 1897 when fighting for the Gordon Highlanders when taking the heights of Dargai. Inverness ist die Hauptstadt der Highland Region und der Touristenstartpunkt für die Northwest Highlands. Innerhalb der letzten 15 Jahre ist die Stadt stark gewachsen und hat nach Meinung etlicher Kenner und Einwohner viel von ihrem ehemaligem Charme verloren. Im Altstadtbereich sind einige schöne Dinge zu sehen. Inverness Castle -das jetzt ein Verwaltungsgebäude ist, St.Andrews Cathedral -die 1866 erbaut wurde, Balnain House -für Freunde der Highlandmusik und das Inverness Museum -Informationen rund um die Highlands. Natürlich gibt es auch zahlreiche Geschäfte, die zu einem Bummel einladen. Bekannt ist Inverness jedoch vor allem durch seine Lage, in direkter Nähe vom Loch Ness. ----- Da ich mich Schottland sehr verbunden fühle, habe ich mir dort ein kleines Stückchen Land im Nord-Osten des Landes in Camster Estate, Caithness, Scotland, gekauft und darf mich jetzt "Lady of Camster, Lairdess of Glencairn" nennen, denn ich gehöre nun auch zur Gruppe der Landlords resp.
